Seagull Scientific was founded in 1985, originally as a manufacturer and distributor of bar code reading equipment for IBM and compatible personal computers. In 1987 they started selling their first label printing software: "The Bar Tender for DOS". The first Windows version of BarTender was launched in 1993, followed by the first "true" Windows drivers for the industry’s major brands of label printers. By the end of 1996 Seagull Scientific was well established as an industry leader in Windows-based label software.
